What is agentic AI?
Agentic AI is AI that takes a goal and acts on its own to reach it. Instead of only answering a question, it plans the steps, uses tools and apps, keeps track of what it has done, and adapts as it goes. In short, agentic AI does the work, not just the talking.

In short
- Agentic AI acts toward a goal; a plain chatbot just answers.
- The agentic part is the behavior: it plans, uses tools, and adapts.
- It is a spectrum, from a single action to long multi-step work.
- Incredible is agentic, but asks before anything consequential.
What makes AI “agentic”?
A plain chatbot responds to one message at a time. Agentic AI is different in behavior: you give it an outcome, and it works out the steps, uses the tools and apps it needs, remembers what it has already done, and adjusts when something changes. The word points at the doing, not at any one product.
Most people describe four traits. It plans a goal into steps. It uses tools, like your apps, a browser, or your files. It holds context across those steps. And it has some autonomy to act without being told each move.
| Plain chatbot | Agentic AI | |
|---|---|---|
| What you give it | A question | A goal or outcome |
| What it returns | An answer | The finished work |
| Steps | One reply | Plans and runs many |
| Tools and apps | Usually none | Uses them to act |
Is agentic AI the same as an AI agent?
They point at the same idea from two angles. An AI agent is the thing; agentic is the quality it has. Calling AI agentic says it plans and acts toward a goal rather than only replying.
It is a spectrum, not a switch. A tool can be a little agentic, taking one action for you, or very agentic, running long multi-step work on its own. The honest test is the behavior: after you ask, does it carry the task through, or stop at telling you how?
Is agentic AI safe to let act?
Because agentic AI takes actions, it can do more, and without oversight it can get more wrong. That is why the safer designs keep a person in the loop: the AI prepares the work, and you approve anything that sends, changes, or deletes.
The goal is not to remove the person. It is to let the AI carry the effort while you keep the decisions that matter.
Where does Incredible fit?
Incredible is agentic: you say an outcome, and it plans and carries out the steps across your apps, rather than only answering. It works across 3,000+ apps you already use, on your own Mac or PC.
What it does not do is act unchecked. Before anything consequential, it asks, and you can see what it did. It is agentic AI that keeps you in charge of the moments that count.
Questions, answered
What is the difference between agentic AI and generative AI?
Generative AI creates content, like text or images, in response to a prompt. Agentic AI goes a step further and acts: it takes a goal and carries out the steps to finish it. A product can do both, generating a draft and then sending it for you.
Is agentic AI just a buzzword?
The phrase is used loosely, but it points at a real shift: from AI that answers to AI that acts. The useful test is behavior, not the label. After you ask, does it do the task across your apps, or only tell you how?
Does agentic AI work without me?
It can, but the safer designs keep you in the loop. Incredible does the work on its own but asks before it sends, changes, or deletes anything, so it acts for you without acting behind your back.
Is Incredible agentic AI?
Yes. Incredible takes a spoken goal and does the work across 3,000+ apps, planning and carrying out the steps, while asking for approval before anything consequential and keeping an audit trail.
